Layer 1 Blockchain Activity Diversifies Amid Weak Token Performance in 2025

According to a report by The Block, Layer 1 (L1) blockchain activity saw increasing diversification in 2025 amid broadly weak token performance. Speculative flows reportedly concentrated on a handful of high-throughput venues. Meanwhile, Ethereum strengthened its position as a settlement and data availability hub. This was driven by Layer 2 (L2) growth and decreasing fees. The report also notes stablecoins solidified their status within the ecosystem.
